Baby Booties

I have not tested these booties on a baby, but they look pretty good.  If anything, the foot might be too long.  They were based on Marilyn's baby booties, posted to the knitlist by Peggy Hartsell.
The original pattern starts with the foot and knits up to the ankle.  I decided to change the pattern to knit from the top down because I had trouble with my cast-off being too tight.  I also wanted to add some curvature to the bottom of the foot (hence the k2tog.)
I am thinking about making myself a pair, using much thicker wool and larger needles.
I appreciate any feedback: email me at webmaster at jengriffin dot com.

Size 4 needles (American)
Dale Baby Ull yarn (much less then 1 skein per pair)

M1 = Increase by one stitch by picking up the horizontal bar between stitches with the left needle and knitting it.

Cast on 28 stitches (I usually leave a pretty long tail for sewing up with later.)
Work in 2x2 ribbing for 16-20 rows (or more--I would do much fewer then 16 rows, though.)
At the beginning of the next row, cast on 4 stitches.
Knit to end of row (32 st).
At the beginning of the next row, cast on 4 stitches.
Knit to end of row (36 st)
K1, M1, K1, M1, K to end of row (38 st).
K1, M1, K1, M1, K to end of row (40 st).
Continue knitting in garter stitch for a total of 6 ridges (12 rows K.)
K2tog twice at the beginning of the next 2 rows (36 st).
Cast off.
Fold in half, and sew down the front and bottom.

I think they look better with the ribbing folded down for a cuff.
